Conjunctivitis is an infection / inflammation of the conjunctiva which is the thin layer that covers the white of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It can affect one or both eyes, causing discomfort.
Conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral or allergic.
The symptoms of conjunctivitis are:
- discomfort,
- red eyes
- white / yellow sticky discharge
- Eyelids may be stuck together in the mornings, in severe cases.
Mild conjunctivitis can usually be treated with over the counter antibiotics from your pharmacist.
However please arrange a consultation if there is any pain or severe redness or inflammation.
- Conjunctivitis can be passed on very easily, so ensure you wash your hands thoroughly after touching your face and try not to share towels and face-cloths.
