Optique offers Optomap Eye Examination - a state of the art, ultra wide-field digital imaging of the retina of the eyes
At Optique, we are very pleased to be able to provide our patients with an Optomap Eye Examination. An Optomap is a state of the art, ultra wide-field digital imaging of the retina of the eyes. The retina is the light sensitive lining within the eyes which allows you to see well. Assessing the health of the retina is a very essential part of an eye examination.
The retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that, in addition to eye conditions, signs of other disorders such as hypertension, risk of stroke, heart disease and diabetes can also be seen on the retina. Early discovery of any health conditions can be beneficial.
The retina can be viewed and assessed with the use of an ophthalmoscope which is a hand held instrument but this only allows a limited view of the retina. An Optomap eye examination allows up to 200 degrees of the retina to be viewed and as it is digital, it means the images are stored and can be referred back to, in the future, and the progress of disorders can be tracked. An Optomap eye examination captures more than 80% of the retina whereas traditional methods can only captures 15% of the retina.
An Optomap eye examination takes only minutes to perform and there is no need for any drops to dilate the pupils and it is completely safe.
Our practice, now in the same ownership for 26 years, has always been very committed to optimum eyecare and this new addition of the state of the art advanced scanning system, further demonstrates our commitment to professional eye care.
